More Capacity

Airbus fleet to begin carrying cargo soon.

We expect to start shipping cargo in June on prior Virgin America routes. Our Airbus fleet of 68 airplanes will offer similar capabilities to our Boeing belly fleet today, but with a greatly expanded route network. That translates to a huge increase in our overall cargo capacity.

What it means:

  • 50% increase in our lower 48 cargo capacity.
  • 300+ daily flights from California to destinations throughout the continental U.S., Mexico, Hawaii, and Alaska.
  • 110 daily flights from the Los Angeles basin.
  • 124 daily flights from the San Francisco Bay Area.

Our new freighters are flying throughout the state of Alaska on their full published schedule. To celebrate, we’re offering special low rates every week in March. Go here for this week’s weekly special. Or call 1-800-2Alaska.

New Self-Service Pick-Up working well in Seattle. Other airports to follow soon.

Our Self-Service Pick-Up has been deployed for several months in Seattle’s Alaska Air Cargo facility, and is now being used 20+ times a day. There are two self-service locations in this facility: in the lobby and in the cargo bay in the warehouse.

Feedback has been positive, especially for repeat customers, who can print delivery receipts and go directly to the warehouse to pick up shipments – bypassing the customer lobby and lines.

We are planning to deploy Self-Service Pick-Up in several new stations very soon, including ANC, LAX, and SFO, with more to follow later in the year.
